What makes daddy a hero?

With Father's Day sneaking up on us I took a moment to ask my children what makes their daddy a hero. I know what makes him a hero to me (his never-ending patience, ability to know exactly when mommy needs a break, hard work ethic, unconditional love, and how he can still play with them like he's a little boy) but it was definitely interesting to hear from the perspective of my little ones. Straight from the mouths of my guys:

Connor: "Because he helps people and he holds onto me on the ladder when we hung up that flower. He just does really good stuff like helping me figure out how to take the track apart and put together my lego castle."

Jackson: "Sometimes he puts masks on, like batman and spiderman."

Interesting to see what makes someone a hero when you are 5 and 2. No matter what their reasons, they definitely love their daddy.

Mama Knows Best + Mother's Day Gift Idea!

My mom has given me lots of advice throughout my life. Most of it I tended to dismiss as unimportant before becoming a parent myself. It's interesting how the moment I entered the mommy world suddenly all the advice my mom had became indispensable. Choosing one piece to be the most important is tough, honestly, pretty much impossible. Apparently, my mom is filled with useful knowledge. There is however, one thing that she taught me that I now use daily and that is to be consistent. She said that when it comes to teaching my children things and to punishing them - it is very important to be consistent. It may sound like a simple concept but for me it is extremely difficult to be "consistent" with. For example - if my punishment for Jackson hitting his big bro is a 5 minute time out on the steps. This is theory seems simple to adhere to but if you have ever met Jackson you would understand the amount of effort it takes to make these 5 minutes take place. He marches to the beat of his own drum as they say and in order to achieve this simple punishment I pretty much have to stand by, constantly putting him back in time out, and in the end it takes a 5 min punishment a good 40 minutes to be executed. Not to mention when we are out somewhere and he hits his brother - it's almost impossible to implement the 5 minute time out without leaving where we are to find a suitable time out location. If I wait until we return home my 2 year old has no clue what he is being punished for in the first place. Being consistent takes a great deal of effort on my part and there are certainly moments when I try to justify just giving him a stern talking to and pushing the issue aside.

Hard as my mom's advice can be to live by, I have learned very quickly that when I do - my children clearly learn what I am trying to teach them. It's a simple concept but until my mom pointed it out to me I didn't realize just how inconsistent I was in so many areas of their lives. This policy also means that daddy and I need to in force the same things. More often than not, we tend to do things a little differently with the boys. To truly be consistent we have to be sure to clearly discuss how we are going to handle things. Most of you have probably already gotten to the whole consistent idea but for me it was one of the best tips my mom sent my way (she has many other gems as well!).

With Mother's Day right around the corner and a post dedicated to talking about my mama - it's hard not to point out some gift ideas for the lady's that gave us life. Tiny Prints is an excellent destination to find mother's day cards for all the special women in your life. I love that they offer the option of personalized cards, meaning you can put photos of your children, mom, grandma, etc.. into the card along with words of your choosing. It really makes the card special, one of a kind, and clearly something you planned in advance instead of picking up at the local drug store on the way to mother's day brunch. I am also a big fan of the card that says "Hey Mom, I blame you...for making me so amazingly awesome" and the card that says "Moms they're like Dads only smarter". Tiny Prints cards range from $1.99 - $3.99 per card and for a personalized card that price to me is unbelievable. I spend $3.99 at Kroger on some random last minute card. Definitely check out the selection today here and be prepared this year with a card that wows and becomes a keepsake!

Tiny Prints provides simple, modern and unique stationery from Father’s Day Cards to personalized greeting cards to thank you cardsbusiness cards, and even custom wedding invitations or photo birth announcements. Offering exclusive designs from the nation’s top designers, easy card personalization, a powerful preview engine and top-notch customer service and paper quality, their designs have been lauded by numerous television networks, publications and celebrities. With Tiny Prints by your side commemorating every holiday and momentous occasion is a cinch! They offer perfect party invitations for every occasion and memorable personalized photo-gifts like notebooksphoto books and calendars to commemorate the event.

Special thanks to Tiny Prints for the inspiration behind this post and also to providing us with a Tiny Prints gift card for our participation. The opinions in this post are my  own.

Nelle & Lizzy - Awesome for Mother's Day!

Mother's Day is sneaking up on us (May 8th) and while I am eagerly coming up with a few wishlist items to drop hints about - I'm also searching for the perfect items for my mom & mother-in-law. It is surprisingly challenging for me to come up with fresh ideas each year even though I'm surrounded by constant new product finds. It's just so tricky to find something that is really special. Nelle & Lizzy is filled with that something special! I have not only found perfect gifts for the moms in my life and a few items for me to lust over, but I have also found some ideas for Father's Day too! They have an amazingly unique selection of beautiful personalized jewelry.
I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to review my top wishlist item from Nelle & Lizzy. I love their Triple Name Ring. You can get this gorgeous ring in single and double form as well. I am always looking for a ring that I can wear on the same hand as my wedding ring that works well with it. I want something simple but something meaningful. This is the first ring I have come across that I truly loved and went perfect with my wedding ring. It has all of my children's names on it, even the little guy on the way (so you can make a pretty strong guess as to what name he will have). I like the way the three bands are intertwined because not only is symbolic but it also keeps me from misplacing one of them. I also like that the rings are constantly changing positions so the name getting the most facetime is always changing. I was impressed with the quality, the cute packaging, and the overall appearance of the ring. I constantly get complicated and asked where I got my ring. These one-of-a-kind stamped rings are perfect for any parent or grandparent. However, if rings aren't your cup of tea - Nelle & Lizzy also offers a great selection of necklaces and bracelets (I LOVE the charm bracelet).

Simply Stated: Nelle & Lizzy offers quality products that are elegantly designed. I love their selection and would strongly recommend them for gifts and a little mommy pampering!

Special thanks to Nelle & Lizzy for providing a sample for review purposes.

Posh Little Tutus

If you haven't checked out the adorable shop Posh Little Tutus you have missed out on an opportunity to do a great deal of "oohing" and "aahing". It's cute shops like this that make me LONG for a girl to play dress up in their insanely pretty attire. I am completely in love with the sweet little Crystal Baby Bling Ballet Slippers, well to be honest I love all the Baby Slippers for sale on Posh Little Tutus. I wish I had someone to buy them for....

Something that cannot be missed is of course the gorgeous tutus in this shop. There is one in every color and style, from petticoat bottoms, to fantasy filled creations for your newborn. In fact - they are the largest tutu boutique for baby girls on the internet! If you can't find a tutu you like here - you are probably not going to find one anywhere. You can even pick up some fairy wings for your little one - they look so cute on the pictures of the newborn babies. It has birth announcement all over it!

One of my other little posh favorites is the Haute Couture Giraffe Designer Baby Layette Set. If the little giraffe print ruffled onesie with a matching headband doesn't do it for you - the matching mary jane style shoes will sell it. I can't help but smile when I see this cute set - it even comes packaged in a keepsake heart box. This is a baby shower gift that will definitely be noticed and will certainly be remembered.

This is such a small sampling of all they have to offer for your little princess. They also have Party dresses, bows, hats, leg warmers, and much more. You have to visit the Posh Little Tutus for yourself to see all the wonderful options - be warned it will suck you in. I spent quite a while browsing this shop and I don't even have a little girl.

VDay Gift Pick: The Jawbone ICON

As far as bluetooth headset's go - the new Jawbone ICON would be the Rolls Royce in my book. The 6 different styles of ICON are like nothing I have ever seen before - they're stylish, elegant, and modern. Actually, everything about the ICON is impressive right down to the packaging. It comes in a clear container appearing to float inside the package. It wows before you even unwrap it. Once opened you discover that it comes complete with 3 fit earbuds, 4 round earbuds, and an earloop. What this means for you is that you no longer have to settle for one size fits all. You can customize your ICON to fit the way you want it to, whether it be looped over your ear or snuggled inside. I usually hate the way earbuds feel because due to what I can only guess is an abnormally tiny ear - they actually hurt the cartilage inside my ear. I assumed that the ICON earbuds would be the same, but to my surprise - it fit very comfortably and stayed in place incredibly well!

There is even more to love about this stylish hands free device! The sound quality is incredible. It actually uses technology that was developed for use in tanks and helicopters. It is the only bluetooth headset that has a Voice Activity Sensor - which actually feels your speech - making it possible to distinguish your voice from the background noise. It then uses it's NoiseAssassin technology to eliminate the background noise making your voice crystal clear.

I was really thrilled with the ease of use from the moment I opened it. Pairing it with my iPhone took about 2 minutes and once paired my phone displayed an icon showing the amount of battery left on my ICON (much like the one displaying the iPhone's battery status). You can simply touch the talk button on your headset to hear how much battery life is left or double press the talk button to redial the last number called. It will even tell you the number that is calling you, preventing you from needing to check your phone before answering. If you install some of the MyTALK DialApps then you can do cool things like voice-to-SMS, voice dial, even post to twitter just by talking. You also have the option of connecting it to more than one phone at the same time - so if you are like many and have a personal and a work cell - you can get calls from both devices to the same headset.

It charges with the included USB charger or the included wall adapter. I love the way the USB charger elevates the ICON. It not only looks cool but it keeps me from accidentally sitting on it. It charges quickly and will give you up to 4.5 hours of talk time and 10 days of standby time. I seriously LOVE this headset. If I am on the phone then I am using my ICON. It makes my driving much safer, my typing skills greatly improved, and it not only keeps makeup residue off my touchscreen but it keeps me from accidentally muting, holding, or pressing speaker on my calls. I can now change a diaper, prepare dinner, even bathe a toddler without worrying about dropping my phone in something damaging or having to find a way to do these tasks with just one hand. It is a really helpful device to have would make a great gift for both male and female. My husband has certainly been admiring mine! Check out the Jawbone site to get your own or to buy one for that special someone on your Valentine's Shopping List (trust me - this will get a better response than flowers!).

Have your diaper and eat it too..

I always struggle to come up with that "WOW" baby shower gift or the perfect new baby gift. A friend made me a beautiful diaper cake for Jackson's shower and since then I have always loved how adorably cute & useful those special cakes can be. Most of the places I have discovered to purchase them from are way out of my price range. Yes, the gift is meant to impress but not to wipe out my bank account and let's be realistic: it is going to be taken apart at some point. At some of the prices I've seen you'd think it was a wedding cake. Diaper Cakewalk lets you get the "ooohhs & aahhhs" that we want to achieve without breaking the bank. I don't think that you could make one yourself for much less than these cost, plus think about the time and effort you are saving yourself. We all think that we can make it but in the end most of us end up with a lopsided, not so sure what it is, looking creation or you end up running to Target at the last minute because it is just too embarrassing. You might save $5 - $10 but it is so not worth it. However, if you really want to put your personal touch on a diaper cake - you can get a do it yourself diaper cake from Diaper Cakewalk. It is basically a naked cake just waiting for you to embellish (and isn't that the fun part). It's the easy way to show off your inner Martha Stewart.

The Colorful Baby Giraffe Diaper Cake was sent to me to review and I was nothing but impressed with it. I had over 40 premium Pampers Swaddlers, a super-soft vibrant stuffed giraffe with a rattling tummy, baby washcloths, baby powder, and a pacifier. It was wrapped up in beautiful white tulle and carefully packaged to arrive in perfect condition. I would definitely order a Diaper Cake from them for the next baby shower I attend. They have so many cute options for both boy, girl, and unknown. Some of my favorites are the boy Blue Elephant Eco-Friendly and the girl Activity Piggy. The prices vary based on the amount of tiers and extras on the cake. If you are on a tight budget you can get the sweet It's A Girl! Mini Diaper Cake for only $35 (there is also a boy version) - they call them Poundcakes (how cute is that!?!). Basically, if you are looking for any kind of Diaper Cake that is both super cute and easier on your checkbook - Diaper Cakewalk is well....a cakewalk!

Tis the season to smell delicious

I absolutely love it when my house smells delicious. With a home full of messy males, it rarely achieves a desirable scent. The Body Shop has helped me to get my home smelling yummy. While it doesn't vanquish the odd smells, it certainly covers them up! I love their Midnight Stars Oil Burner. You just need a tea light and some scented oil in the top of the burner to release delightful aromas. The oil burners also looks just beautiful as the light peeks through the cutouts on the burner sides. It can be a really pretty edition to any room. The Body Shop has wonderful scented oils. My current favorite is the Nutmeg & Vanilla Home Fragrance Oil. I'm uncontrollably drawn to vanilla but the edition of nutmeg to the scent is flawless. My home smells warm, cozy, and like I have been baking something delicious!! It even makes it feel more like the holidays. There is over 4 pages of different fragrance oils to choose from, which means they truly have something for everyone!
  • Wrap it up: This makes a great gift for someone you don't know all that well, like a teacher or co-worker. It's also wonderful for friends or grandparents. Try packaging the oil burner with a couple different fragrance oils and some tea lights.

What do Michael, Madonna, the 80's, & Christmas have in common?

All of the tracks from My Baby Loves are wonderful! I am completely obsessed with pretty much each & every one. I'm not sure how they did it but now Michael Jackson, Madonna, the 80's, and even Christmas songs have been made soothing enough for bedtime. I love that in the process of making them baby friendly they are still so much like the originals. I can't help but singing along to them, especially when I rock my little one at bedtime. He will know Don't Stop Believin' by heart as soon as he can talk. Why should your child be forced to listen to music you couldn't stand yourself. With the cd collection from My Baby Loves - they can enjoy the same big hits that you love and since they have no words we can omit any not so baby friendly lyrics when we sing along. Pick up the full collection and make sure to let baby open the Christmas cd early!
  • Wrap it up: Make sure you have a cd player for the nursery because your little one will want to enjoy these in their room at night!
  • Age: 0+

Rag & Bone

Rag & Bone Bindery has something for everyone this holiday season. All of their creations are well-designed and beautiful. Although it wasn't easy I narrowed their fab selection down to my 2 top gift picks from Rag & Bone Bindery. I absolutely LOVE their Twelve Wishes for Baby. The handmade book is so cute and destined to become truly treasured by the recipient (especially after they can read). This unique book has 12 simple ]fill-in-the blank pages that give you the perfect ideas for memorable & meaningful notes to a baby. For example - "My wish for you..." and "A Special Place I hope you'll visit.." I love the idea of having different family members fill out the various pages. It also has spots to add your photos and to list your 5 simple rules/advice for beginning life's journey. It is a touching gift. I would give it to a new mom, expectant mother, or create one for your new baby. Trust me - they will appreciate it later!

My second top pick is the Day Planner. It is so far from the boring leather planner. It looks chic and sophisticated. There are so many cover options and I can't find a single one that isn't gorgeous! It's a beautiful way to stay organized and a calendar I am more than happy to pull out of my handbag. You can also customize the planner to your own needs by picking out some of their add-ons. They have business card pages, blank tabs, daily expense pages, to-do pages, and even a clear zip envelope. I love the simple elegance of this handmade planner and I have a feeling most woman would too!

  • Wrap it up: If you are buying the day planner - try packaging it with a nice set of pretty pens. Their is just something about a new planner that makes you so eager to write! As for the 12 Wishes for Baby, your words inside are plenty!
  • Price Tag: $29 for 12 Wishes for Baby, $39 for the Day Planner

My Tagalongs

I recently discovered a site filled with cute and functional products for a gal's life. My Tagalongs has many items that help to simplify and organize my life. Their Tampoon Tubes are genius! Not only do they stylishly camouflage the contents but they also keep them from getting crushed in your purse. This is a gift that your gal pals will appreciate and your teens will thankfully carry to the restroom. Their Jewelry Sac keeps your jewelry from tangling with 8 separated outer pockets surrounding large inner pocket. You just pull the drawstring the keep them safely inside the nylon sac. Before this I never even bothered to pack my jewelry because I knew it would end up a jumbled mess. I am also loving the Purse Hook-er! It's chic simplicity keeps it from looking like the usual over embellished granny purse hooks. You can easily keep your latched to any surface which not only keeps the contents safer, but also keeps nasty floor germs from attaching themselves to your handbag. This tiny helper even comes with an adorable little storage case.
  • Wrap it up: These handy helpers have stocking stuffer all over them! Or buy all three and give them as gifts to any lady in your life - moms, teens, grandmas, and bff's included.

Obsession with a sketchbook

This is probably one of my favorite things on the market right now. Perhaps it's the Project Runway craze but I am really into sketching out designs of my own. Will they ever grace the runway of New York Fashion Week? My magic eight ball says 'outlook not so good' but that is hardly what I am going for. It's fun to get in touch with your inner style and with the Fashionflat Sketchpad it has never been easier. This adorably designed pad has 40 pages with pre-printed female forms that are ready and waiting for your designs. It also has a spot on each page for your notes, fabric swatches, or inspiration tears. The coolest thing about this one of a kind sketchpad is that when you photo-copy or scan your designs, the pre-printed female forms disappear. Now it looks like you did it all on your own!! The paper is high quality and heavy enough stock that you need not worry about markers bleeding through. On top of all this - there was no compromise made with the design of the sketchpad itself. It is effortlessly elegant and it even comes with stickers so that you can place your monogram on the cover. Who wouldn't have fun with this? Now you can create your own collection, prom dress, or even wedding gown - it's much easier to have your dream clothing made when you have a well laid out design to show.
  • Wrap it up: Give this memorable gift with some high quality colored pencils or markers from an art store. Or you could also wrap it up with a book about fashion.

I admit - I was attracted to this one for my train obsessed four year old. However, I think that the Graffiti Train is a better fit for adults and teenagers (even though he thought it was really cool). Premium scented candles for every occasion

I love scented candles. I love the way the scent fills the room and the soft flickering glow that it comes from. Aunt Sadies has an amazing array of beautiful candles in just about any scent you could hope to find. Not only do the long lasting candles come in some seriously cute tins but the scent it just strong enough to fill the room without overpowering it. The hardest part about shopping at Aunt Sadies is choosing which candles to buy from their wonderful selection. They have so many delightful holiday candles to offer and many other fun scents like their It's a Baby Candle (one of my favorites because it truly smells like a newborn). They even have a Beer candle, a chocolate scented candle, an Obama candle, and a Leather candle. No matter who is on your shopping list - they are certain to have a candle that will make them smile.
  • Wrap it up: The possibilities are endless with this one but here are a few ideas: 1) for grandma - wrap up some of their delicious scents like pumpkin pie, gingerbread, apple pie, and then add a holiday cookbook to complete the gift. 2)for your child's teacher - try the red delicious apple candle with a gift card to your local bookstore. 3)for the outdoorsy man - try a selection of their outdoor candles (they even have a cabin scented one) and you could always add something that comes in camo in their gift box.

Which Demeter Scent would you pick?

Our award for best scents goes to Demeter Fragrance. Their collection of amazing scents has over 250 scent options ranging from things like sugar cookie to baby powder. All of their scents are 95% natural and contain no artificial colors or phthalates. If you are looking for a specific scent this is the right company for you. The scent library was like being a kid in a candy shop for me. It was way to much fun browsing all of the options. I still can't get over the sheer amount of choices. They are the perfect place to find a gift for someone for any occasion. How perfect would the Baby Powder be for a baby shower? Or the Funeral Home for a 50th birthday party? I really struggled narrowing down to a few favorites but currently my top picks are:

Vanilla Cake Batter (my very favorite!!!) - it's just such a comforting, delicious smell. It takes me back to when my mom would bake a cake for my birthday. I love smelling that scent on my skin throughout the day!

Marshmallow - The scent is light and smells faintly of sweet vanilla and sugar. It makes me think of making smores & camping trips or baking Rice Krispie Treats

Hershey's Special Dark - Yes, I have a sweet tooth and smelling like the rich, dark chocolate bars I used to eat at Christmas is such a treat. I love this thick, exotic scent. It does make me crave chocolate every time I wear it though!

Apple Pie - It smells just as you would want it to; just like grandma made it. The delicious aroma of sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flaky pastry, and granny smith apples.

Mulled Cider - This is so perfect for fall and winter. The scent instantly reminds me of the holiday season. It smells of apples, cinnamon, and spices....makes me want to bob for apples.

Poochie Prints add a touch of mod to the nursery

Poochie Prints is a great place to discover a fresh approach to wall decor in kid spaces. I love the simplicity of their silhouette wall prints and the way you can easily combine several prints to create beautiful images on your walls. Less is more is a mantra I firmly believe and Poochie Prints has that down to a t. Even more impressive is their dedication to creating the perfect print for each individual. They will create custom designs for you at no up charge. So if you have been looking for a certain design they can make it happen. You can even send in a paint chip and they will match your print to that specific shade. Customer service like that for no extra charge is pretty rare. The custom wall prints they created for my family are so gorgeous. I like them so much that they are going up on the wall in our living room! I didn't tell them anything other than my eldest loves trains and they got everything so perfect for our family - right down to the color selection! Their extremely affordable too - each print is only $25 including the frame. Most of the time you can't even purchase a decent frame for that cost.

Poochie Prints is also a great place for gifts. I believe that their Wall Prints would be a huge hit with any parent but their personalized stationary is not something to be overlooked. I love the idea of custom stationary for your children. It makes such a special touch when it comes to their thank-you notes, letters to grandparents, even for writing a sweet note to their teacher or their daddy. It also makes them feel special. Poochie Prints made Connor some adorable notecards with the same image you see in the Wall Print to your left. Now he is always wanting me to help him write letters to his friends and family. He can't read or spell yet but if he dictates and I write it on a sheet of paper - he will copy my words onto his personalized notecards. I am really so impressed Poochie Prints and I would love for you to take a moment to visit their site. I'm sure that they have a design just perfect for your home and if not - they would be happy to create one that is!Best Blogger Tips
