Getting my son potty trained was an ordeal that took well over 6 months. We tried everything and the only thing that he seemed interested in was getting a sticker reward. It wasn't an instant solution but it took us much closer in the direction than anything else. Although there are several learning to potty books to choose from until Pirate/Princess Potty, I had never seem a story combined with a sticker reward system.
I absolutely adore these books. One comes with a tiara and the other with a pirate hat. They also come with stickers made for decorating their new head piece. The princess has jewels and the pirate gold. I like how each story explains using the potty and then show the child getting a beautiful sticker reward for their hat. It makes it easy for your child to connect to the story when they have the same hat & reward.
The author, Samantha Berger, has a fantastic sense of humor. While your child might not get some of the jokes she has tossed in - you certainly will. I like that she refers to the princess potty as the "royal throne" and that the pirate potty has an "X marks the spot". I also thought that the little potty song in each story was perfect for incorporating into your potty routine. I absolutely loved the cute and colorful illustrations from Amy Cartwright. Will the Princess/Pirate Potty books have your little one out of diapers? I'm not making any promises but I do think that they could be a great intro to the world of potties and certainly a strong first step. I think that the hat/sticker reward system would really appeal to some children - certainly would have with my oldest....my youngest however, would probably just try to eat the stickers. Perhaps the story with gold chocolate coins as a reward would work best with him. No matter what prize you might choose - these stories are wonderful, cute, sweet, and a must have for starting potty training!

My little boy came running in the living room after playing in his bedroom. He was naked from the waist down and had a wild look on his face. He ran up to me and said "Mama, poop ever-where!" and then took off running to his room to show me the damage. I caught a flash of his little poopy hiney on the way back to his bedroom and thought some very soap-worthy phrases. I walked into my son's room and indeed there was poop ever-where (as my son so sweetly put it). He had taken his dirty diaper off in the middle of his bedroom floor and (sorry for the TMI) trailed poop from one end of his room to the other. GROOOSSSSS!!! Needless to say I spent the rest of the day going over his carpet again and again with a steam cleaner. Ugh! Even retelling that makes me need a shower.
We started training last summer casually by leaving my sons diaper off. There have been several times we've found files of poop on our porch in a corner - sometimes it takes awhile to figure out if it was him or the dogs! At least it was outside!
My youngest is just starting to train, so it's too early to have stories on him. But my oldest trained really early. One time he was sitting on the royal thrown, and was laughing. I looked over and he had peed in his face. Disgusting I know. The joy of boys.

My daughter needs some motivation when it comes to potty training! She's starting to really enjoy anything princess - related, so I think this could really help! Thanks for the chance to win.

I've tried potty training my son, but he just doesn't seem to care. I would be up to trying anything to get him excited. These books sounds cute! :-)

My experience was so very difficult that I called in my mother. She potty trained my son in a week. She removed the diaper and only let him wear underwear. She then sat him on the potty for hours at a time with books and in less than a week he was potty trained. I'm thinking of calling her in to train my two girls!!!

I'm just beginning to think about potty training my youngest (a girl). My son was AWFUL to train! He pooped everywhere BUT the potty: on the sidewalk in front of our house while playing with some neighbor kids (I was mortified, but didn't catch him before it was TOO Late!), in a play McDonald's Happy Meal container we have, in the back of a toy wagon, etc. Also, he takes after his father in his skinny build, so even the smallest size training pants and pull-ups were HUGE on him, so if he pooped in them, he would leave a poop trail all over the house.
Can't wait to start it all over again (not really). Maybe the book idea would work?

We aren't there yet, but I'm already thinking about it. Not really sure how it will go or what to do, but I know some kids like these kind of books!!
I subscribe too :)
I'll be potty training my son this summer and I'm kinda dreading it =/ He's pretty stubborn so I think I'll have a hard time. I like these books because they make it fun & less scary for kids to use the potty, hopefully it'll appeal to my son! tylerpants(at)gmail.com
