PLAYMOBIL

PLAYMOBIL is a wonderful way to give toys that inspire imagination and creativity. I am amazed with their huge selection of options when it comes to fantasy play. Pretty much any dream situation has a playset to match. While I'm drawn toward the Circus sets and the Fairy World, my boys like the adventure sets. The Nautical Expedition line was right up their alley. We got the chance to review the Deep Sea Diving Bell and my son (age 4) was captivated. It can actually be submerged in water and the cabin will stay waterproof. The diving vessel has cool features like a retractor arm, turning fans, lights and air tanks. You even get to lower the vessel with a crank rope (totally my son's favorite feature)! The set also comes with a headgeared decked out ocean diver, ocean foliage, and a golden idol. We fill the sink with water and just let him enjoy. It also makes a fabulous bathtime toy and I have a feeling it will be a big hit at the pool this summer! I love to watch the creative things he says and does as his imagination takes over during play. He is really into spies so the deep sea mission is usually something to do with a four year old's perception of spy duties. Any set from PLAYMOBIL would be a hit with the child on your shopping list. Their catalog is impressive!
  • Wrap it up: I would pick a category and then include several of the coordinating sets to give them the maximum play experience!
  • Age: 4+
  • Price Tag: $7+
  • Where to buy: Online at PLAYMOBIL and ToysRUs also has a great selection

I would use it to recreate our playing time at the real reef. Since it is so realistic my little one would easily be able to recall his own experiences and we can add new words and ideas too as we play!

I'd love the Divers in a Tropical Reef Set.

I would use it to teach my son about the different animals in the sea, and would also incorporate other things into my teachings, like picture books, so my son can see all the colors in the ocean, too.

I would choose the Shark Diver set if I won.

My granddaughter wants to be a doctor when she grows up and she uses the Playmobil Hospital to take care of all her little patients. It is teaching her a wonderful bed side manner and to really care about people.
I would love the Divers in a Tropical Reef set. Thank you!

1) It's a great way to teach about things in real life, in addition to imaginative play. 2) I'd rather win the coral reef one, but either would be great!

Although I love the reef set, I think my son would love the shark diver set. Playing with toys like this give us the opportunity to discuss what we're seeing, why we're doing certain things (ie., why is the diver in a cage). Also, they stimulate the imagination in that they can be played with in different ways, unlike so many toys.

I love that you can teach kids about different situations in real life through play! I would like the Divers in a Tropical Reef Set because my nephews' father is a diver and they would love this!

The expedition set is amazing. Of course this would be put to use for bath tub fun. Anything that children play with that involves direct contact with the toy is going to activate their imagination. These Playmobil toys are perfect.

The Pyramid and Animal Clinic would be two fun sets to win. It is interesting to talk about how the Pyramids were possibly built and why!
My brother was a Veterinarian and I like teaching about the animals that he worked with. Many thanks, Cindi

My favorite is the Researcher on Boat and Whale. It would be neat to use as a teaching moment because we don't live near any oceans so it would be neat to show my daughter the different careers you have to choose from.

If I won, I would choose the Shark Diver set.

Currently I am using a Playmobil Nativity Set to help reinforce to my children the true reason we celebrate Christmas. We are reading the story of Christ's birth a little each day, and setting up the pieces of the nativity scene that were in the portion of the story that day. FUN!

I think these toys inspire creative learning play all on their own -- you don't need to do a lot to get your kid's mind going. but you can throw in a few facts or questions along the way, naming the different sea creatures, wondering aloud why the divers need a cage to look at the sharks... I would want the Divers in a tropical reef set.

It sounds a bit grandiose, but I love how the architecture of the Playmobile sets is realistic, like the Yellow Framework house in the Knights collection. I'd hope that it would subliminally teach my son a little about architecture, which I love.

I'd love to win the Tropical Reef set

I would like the shark diver set since my son likes learning about sharks and other animals. We used the playmobil medical sets a lot for role play when my son was sick. They're so detailed so we were able to explain everything from ambulances to surgery and ICU with help.

The thing I love most about Playmobil is how many different cultures are covered–-that Masai warrior is just amazing. That could really spur some interesting conversations.

Wow. I never knew there were that many to choose from! From a teaching aspect...if you had a child that needed to have their tonsils out, and they were a bit nervous about it, you could get them the Operating Room set (or any of the Hospital sets). Then you could use that playtime to make them more at ease about the situation.
My 2 Favorites are the Expedition Ship (because it reminds me of the Deadliest Catch show) and the Egyptians Pyramid Set (because I'm a geek about anything dealing with Egypt or mummies).

I started buying Playmobil for my son about 37 years ago, when they first arrived in our area. There was nothing like them at the time. I continued to buy the dollhouse, etc. when our daughter came along. Now I buy the sets for my grandsons.
I like Playmobil pieces because they don't need batteries. There aren't flashing graphics or noises. They let the child use his imagination and
take flights of fancy. As a learning tool, we talk to the child about what he is making, or the story he is working out.
Either set would be great.
