Rivers, Roads, and Rails

It was the word Rails in the game title that drew my attention. My oldest son is train obsessed. Seriously OBSESSED since birth. Everything in his life relates back to trains - so I was hopeful that Rivers, Roads, & Rails would be a game he would love. The game didn't disappoint. Not only was my little guy very pleased with the game but it also threw in a great deal of sneaky learning (matching, association, recognition). The game reminds me a little of scrabble except instead of making words you are creating a path. You take turns drawing cards and trying to set them down to further the path that has been created. However, it must match up and if you haven't drawn a card that does you must draw again and wait for your next turn. The player to use all their cards first wins. My son loves building the different paths and he will even use the cards to build paths when we are not playing. He thinks of it as a puzzle too and occasionally I will catch him driving his cars & trains across the path he created. I love toys that open up their imagination and are not limited to just what is printed on the box!
  • Wrap it up: If you have a fellow train lover, try giving the game with a new toy train. Car lovers, give a new toy car or for the water lovers, try a toy boat.
